Our Festive Centrepiece for the Wimbledon Community

Introduction
It’s that wonderful time of year again! We were absolutely delighted to contribute a special festive set to the annual Christmas community tea event, hosted by a wonderful organization at a local private school in Wimbledon. This event, which welcomes many guests from local care homes, is a beautiful tradition, and I always enjoy using my baking to spread a little holiday cheer.
The last year, I offered a decadent yet delicate Chocolate Cake With Bergean Chocolate Italian Meringue Buttercream paired with a dozen matching fairy cupcakes—a complete, elegant set designed to be the perfect centrepiece for a joyous occasion.
Elegant Simplicity and Decadent Flavour
The main cake is a stunning study in elegant simplicity. At its heart is my signature delicate genoise sponge, perfectly paired with a velvety smooth Bergean chocolate Italian meringue buttercream.

To ensure the cake was inviting and comforting for all the honored guests, I kept the decoration beautifully simple, elegant, and classic. It’s decorated with a classic wreath of piped buttercream foliage, fresh raspberries, and edible gold accents that truly evoke the joy of the special season. The artistry is in the refinement, proving that sometimes, less is truly more.
The Chocolate Cream Everyone Loves
This Bergean chocolate Italian meringue buttercream is a universal favourite for a reason. It strikes the perfect balance between the rich, slightly bitter notes of high-quality Bergean chocolate and the silky, subtle sweetness of my Italian meringue base.
Unlike much of the overly sweet chocolate-based frosting found in the UK, this buttercream is light, fluffy, and perfectly balanced. Even my own son—who usually shies away from chocolate treats on the market—loudly declares his love for this cream! It’s this attention to a less-sweet, refined flavour profile that appeals deeply to our Japanese families and our discerning London foodies.
Miniature Elegance: The Matching Fairy Cupcakes

To complement the main cake, I created a dozen elegant cupcakes featuring a matching, festive design. Using my light sponge base, the cupcakes were topped with a vibrant trio of buttercream in deep red, moss green, and an off-white that perfectly captures the classic Christmas colour palette.
To make them truly sparkle and feel celebratory, I added delicate snowflake-shaped winter sparkles and tiny, edible gold pearls. They are miniature pieces of edible art, bringing a cohesive and festive feel to the dessert table, renowned for their beautiful, refined designs and delicious, well-balanced taste.
An Extra Cut…
Dropping off my beautiful cakes at the venue on the morning of the event is always a heartwarming moment. I love sneaking a peek at the piles of contributions from so many generous volunteers—it’s always fun and joyful to see what others have baked for the community. Each item, no matter how simple or elaborate, is clearly made with love, which always leaves me feeling incredibly warm and grateful for the community spirit here in Wimbledon.
I plan to offer baking for the event for 2025 again, and the upcoming Christmas set will be my last bake for 2025! CouCou Natsuha will be closing shortly for a well-deserved holiday with my family and friends. I will be back, refreshed and ready to bake for you and your loved ones in January 2026.
